埃及最早的金字塔 Saqqara Pyramids, Egypt

On the dusty Saqqara plateau, ten miles [16 km] south of the Sphinx and the Pyramids of Giza, the Step Pyramid of Pharaoh Djoser rises likes a grand mirage, shimmering more than 200 feet [61 m] above the stark Egyptian sands.

This colossal monument, begun around 2630 B.C., was Egypt's--and the world's--first pyramid.


With 32 chambers, Mereruka's flat-roofed mastaba tomb is the largest at Saqqara. He was vizier, or chief executive, to Pharaoh Teti, who died around 2291 B.C.
